Will Hand’s Weblog

Just another WordPress.com weblog

Apologies for the lack of pictures of Will – we have finally downloaded the last month’s worth of shots! Will is going from strength to strength – loving Gymbaroo (especially the ball pit, trampoline and the parachute he gets to lie under!). At his latest health centre visit he came in at 77cm tall and just under 9.2kg! This weekend sees his first official Father’s Day – he was very organised this year, giving Mum a list of options to consider as pressies for Daddy.  Stay tuned to see if Daddy likes the pressies Will picked out!

Will chasing Lucy

Since the last post where we had only a brief glimpse of forward motion, Will has certainly made a lot of progress! He is very quick off the mark, frequently either getting to the entertainment unit (providing lots of entertainment by switching the system from TV to radio, or even the whole thing off), or going after Lucy when she is curled up enjoying the heater.  Will has managed to reach Lucy once – this resulted in her quickly heading towards our bedroom (and safety).  Needless to say she is now keeping a close eye on Will.

Will’s bug is now well and truly a thing of the past – the antibiotics worked a treat.  He has now gone back to hanging out with all his friends at mother’s group and Gymbaroo, both of which he seems to love more each week.

Last weekend Will met Jacqui and her two kids Tayla and Josh.  He loved sitting and playing with other kids, just as much as Tayla and Josh loved investigating all of Will’s toys!  This week he came into Mummy’s work – what was supposed to be a quick lunch with Linda, one of Mummy’s friends, turned into a few hours in the office.  Thankfully he is still too young to realise what a kid’s mecca his Mum works at! And in the meantime everyone loved how happy he seemed to just sit back and let everyone chat to him!

Will is exploring more and more foods – even trying his first taste of bolognese last weekend.  Will has however become very adamant when he doesn’t want any more food.  Where previously he just shut his mouth, he now pushes the hand of whoever is feeding him away, plus to emphasise the point he blows lots of raspberries – ensuring it is impossible to get food anywhere near his mouth, without that same food covering whoever is feeding him!

More pics will be posted soon – Mummy just needs to download them off the camera! Till next time, a big hug and kiss to all from Will xx

Forward motion???

Well it has been a little while since the last post – apologies to those who have been dutifully checking and waiting for the lastest update on Will.  Since the last post Will has been battling various bugs. First off he had a bad case of the sniffles – nothing too serious but it did linger for a while.  Unfortunately though, this then developed into a bad cough ad very rattly breathing.  The doctor first of all diagnosed it as bronchiolitis (infant bronchitis, however it then developed into an ear and chest infection.  The great news is Will is now onto some antibiotics to help him get better – and generally remained a happy bub despite it all!

So what has Will been up to? A few weeks ago he and Mum went to have lunch with Aunty Karen….gave Karen a chance to have Will all to herself (and Will to get lots of cuddles).  He then came along on the school run, surprising his cousins and giving Nikki a chance to play with him and try and teach him to crawl!

Those lessons must have paid off, as on the weekend Will did manage forward motion! He isn’t travelling great distances, and his method is a cross between commando crawling and dragging his knees (when up on all fours).  Lucy is now keeping a vigilant watch on Will as his main aim is to get to her (who cares about getting to mum and dad when there is a cat in the room?).  So far he has only really been as successful as getting to Lucy’s snooza rug…and clearly Lucy has well and truly got out of the way by then.

Other than that not a lot has been happening – due to Will’s bugs he has been at home and hasn’t got out and about.  Hopefully that will all change soon and we will have more to report!

Matt and Jim’s Birthday

Yesterday Will went to his Aunty Karen’s and Uncle Nik’s to celebrate his cousin Matt’s 16th birthday and Poppa Jim’s 60th.  It was a very exciting day for Will as he got to meet Mrs K (uncle Nik’s Mum) for the first time, catch up with all his cousins and say goodbye to Grandma and Poppa Jim before they left for their big 2 month holiday to Europe! Will had a great time playing with all his cousins and showing off his rolling and shuffling backwards skills – so much so that he wouldn’t go to sleep when he was supposed to! Thankfully (according to Mum and Dad) he had a good sleep in the car on the way home

Will meets Ruby

Last week Aunty Bel finally discovered that the RSPCA had a couple of Dobermann puppies at its Burwood shelter that were up for adoption – something she has been waiting on for a very long time! After going and visiting both puppies (4 month old females) and a number of conversations with the staff at the RSPCA, Bel and Ash were finally allowed to adopt a puppy, and therefore brought Ruby home last Thursday.

On Friday Will got to meet Ruby, and they were both very excited to meet each other (Ruby may be a little more excited than Will!).  After many licks of his hands and feet, Ruby finally managed to lick Will’s face, something he was perhaps not that thrilled about!

Caterpillars are yummy?

Well really the picture says it all – this caterpillar was a Christmas present from Aunty Bel and Uncle Ash, and has recently become one of Will’s favorite toys…so much so he likes to eat it!!!

On the move!

Well in the space of a couple of weeks Will has become the master of rolling around the floor, and shuffling backwards.  This is somewhat frustrating for him for two reasons:

1) When he wants something that is in front of him, it gets further and further away as he has not yet mastered moving forwards

2) The combination of rolling and backwards movement often sees him heading towards places that are not suitable for 6 month olds, such under the clothes airer or towards pieces of stereo gear and cables.  When he encounters such locations, either Mum or Dad retrieve him, only for him to get grumpy because they have moved him away from where he had worked so hard to get to!

That all being said he is getting better at holding himself up on his hands and knees and is starting to rock backwards and forwards…so from here we are thinking he will soon be sitting on his own! In the meantime he is showing that we are all born with the ability to do full push ups, as he can even get onto his hands and toes (making Mummy very jealous at how easy he does it!)

He is loving his food, and now has a fondness for lamb or chicken bones.  He had a quick check of his growth progress…he is now 75cm long and 8.8kg!

This weekend he went to visit Grandma, as soon she wll be off on a wonderful trip to the UK and Europe.  While there Will showed just how much he loved her furniture, trying to take a bite out of an armchair!

This week Will is going to his first Gymbaroo class – as noted in an earlier post we are hoping he doesn’t grizzle the whole way through!

We have proof of teeth!

Beautiful tootie-pegs!

After stalking Will with a camera, finally we have a picture where you can see his gorgeous two bottom teeth! Will try and get more pictures however for now I think Will is somewhat suspicious about how often that shiny silver thing that flashes appears!

Busy Busy Boy!

I finally got to this big furry thing I keep seeing around the place!

Its been a busy couple of weeks for Will! Solids are coming along really well, with him liking most foods (though mashed brocoli wasn’t a big favorite!).  He is starting to get a big appetite now and often wants more food than he is given!

Will went to a trial Gymbaroo class last Thursday – some interesting elements (such as written word recognition – bizarre for 5-8 month olds, especially when the word is a long one like “dinosaur”!).  Will did grizzle through most of the class but we are going to give it a shot for a term, mainly so we learn some new games and activities, plus give him a chance to play on some equipment we will never have at home! Fingers crossed that he does like it!

Will is starting to move about a bit now, he has managed to moved backwards on his tummy, and is starting to roll from his back to tummy to get to toys.  The best one we have seen so far is Will rolling from his tummy to back and then gradually wriggling around so he could get close to Lucy! Lucy was happily curled up in front of the heater and so didn’t mind Will reaching over and touching her (I guess as long as he didn’t grab a fist full of fur or tail she accepts it!). He did manage to roll over and get both of his hands on her, however by the time the camera came out, he’d rolled onto his back and only had one hand on her! It has however made us realise that we do need to look at a guard for the heater pretty quickly (and in the menatime make sure we either keep a very close eye on Will and his travels or turn the heater off!).

Will got to meet Livia (grandma and Aunty Cheryl’s “triplet”) for the first time on the weekend – I think Livia was rather surprised at how happy Will was, and how we was happy to be held by a relative stanger the minute he met her!

Blue Boy

A happy Carlton fan

This week Mummy finally found a Carlton scarf and beanie set for me….she tells me it does look more like the Geelong jumper, but at least it is a start! Carlton came from behind to beat Port Adelaide so Mummy thought it was a good time for me to show off my scarf and beanie…see how happy I am! (but I am still refusing to show my teeth in photos!)
